PUKEKO! Swamp birds of New Zealand. Known for walking right in front of cars lol

Portrait of one of New Zealand's most beautiful birds, the Pukeko. Pukeko is the Maori name for the Purple Swamphen. I've seen a couple of Pukekos near Whatipu, the black sand beach west of Auckland, New Zealand.

Pūkeko is the common name, derived from the Māori language, for the Purple Pwamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) of New Zealand. The subspecies occurring there is Porphyrio porphyrio melanotus, which is also found elsewhere in Australasia, including, in eastern Indonesia, the Moluccas, Aru and Kai Islands, as well as in Papua New Guinea and Australia.
