Romeo Bragato. In 1895, he came to NZ with impressive credentials, and travelled the country, reporting his findings and making recommendations. He came back in 1902 to the newly created post of Viticulturist and Head of the Viticultural Division of the Department of Agriculture based at Te Kauwhata. Many of his recommendations form the basis of modern New Zealand viticulture practices. The Romeo Bragato Conference & Bragato Wine Awards are a salute to the vision of Bragato.
