One Tree Hill, Auckland, New Zealand. Taken before the tree died after being attacked by an extremist. The inspiration for U2's song "One Tree Hill" in honour of their kiwi road manager who died. This was one of his favourite places.
Kahuroa Kahungunu - Kahungunu was the ancestor of the Māori tribe Ngāti Kahungunu, and is seen here holding a hoe and a canoe paddle. This shows his abilities as a navigator. The carving is part of the canoe house on Treaty grounds, Waitangi. Incorporating an ancestor into the dwelling is a common architectural feature of the canoe and meeting houses.
