Former U19 NZ volleyball player Teina Boyd is still waiting to find out if she will walk again. Boyd was at home with some friends over Labour Weekend in October, when a misguided dive onto a bed caused a serious fracture in her neck. The volleyball community expressed their well-wishes. At just 28 years of age, Teina Boyd fractured her C5 vertebrae at her home in Christchurch.
The only cheer louder than the applause for the introduction of Marlborough 15 year-old Jayda Elkington-O'Brien was that reserved at the final whistle when the New Zealand Youth Women's volleyball team beat their Australian counterparts in Blenheim on Thursday night.
