Te Kōpuha: The Bach Project

DIY Bach for the whanau (family). Follow our progress from the beginning to the end. Converting an old shed into a Bach for our whanau. #ShedConversion #BachNZ #Northland #Countryside #Matawaia #Ruatangata #Pipiwai #TheBeginning #HatiWhanau #TeWaakeHati
It's a family affair! I love this photo..... This is our little nephew. They are spending as much time as they can at the Bach well they are still here. As you can see we got started on the floor. In the previous photo you would have seen some tantalised posts in the ground which set the foundation for the floor joists and the 20mm structural ply wood. My husband has some really good discounts through his job, so the price of timber thus far has been inexpensive.

The roofing iron was pretty much brand new, however there were a couple of very small holes and this is another niece of ours Waitaha, who is filling in a couple of very small holes.

What's great about this spot as that even though the purpose of this build is for us to go off the grid, we get 3G/4G reception inside the Bach. This was Easter Monday, everything was packed up we were just waiting for James to put up a make shift sliding door, so that we don't have any 4 legged visitors well we are away. There is no doubt there will be 8 legged ones, but pigs and cows no thank you lol.

We made so much progress that Easter Weekend we completed the floor and installed our first window. It was very satisfying. Most importantly it was so good to be doing it all with our whanau.

Lining up the window. This was our first purchase for the Bach. When we decided to continue this project I was so excited that I went on Trade me and started looking at the Building and Renovation supplies and I canes across this Aluminium window for $50NZ.... very cheap for a window this size.

This is my husband James. We had to strip some of the iron away as well to get the window in.

This is my Brother-in-law Chance. Stripped the ply away, so we could put the window in on that side.
