Lathe Turned Pens

A display of lathe turned pens made in timber and recycled materials. All pens made by Latheabout Woodturning. The board follows my journey starting with 2 piece slimline pens and then modified kits to create one piece pens showing more of the timber blank. All pens are also shown on my Latheabout Facebook page often giving more details on individual pens, often with interesting detail of were the timber was obtained from & its history.

Broad Style Twist Pens
Left Spalted Stabilised Pecan from Texas, right Plum tree from Deb’s Daycare Centre in Addington Christchurch, unfortunately the tree was thought to be dangerous if the children swallowed a plum pip. Made at Latheabout Woodturning Melbourne. #latheabout #latheturnedpens

New kits
Two new pen styles, blanks cut ready to drill and glue brass tubes in for turning, big job though 2 hours of cutting and 3 hours of drilling, now only gluing turning, sanding and finishing. A big job. Latheabout Woodturning Melbourne

Spalted
Today’s play on the lathe, top is Amboyna Burl , more orange than it shows up in the photo. Bottom purple gidgee, hopefully it will purple up a bit more. Both on gunmetal cigar hardware. Made at Latheabout Woodturning Melbourne. #latheabout #latheturnedpens #madeinaustralia

Ekologix Composite
Pens made from composite decking (45% reclaimed timber & 48% recycled plastic) one buffed shine finish & one matt finish.

A couple of pens made from HDPE or #2 recycled plastic, top blank made by me & bottom blank made by Upcycled Plastics in Rolleston. Pen style is a one piece slimline twist.
