This is a plein air painting I did the other week in Pakaraka in Northland, New Zealand I was driving around looking for something to paint and this beautiful black poplar tree caught my eye. Last day in South Island so I spent the day plein air painting in Glenorchy. I painted this view of Mt Alaska. I definitely want to do a studio painting of this view. I got back to Queenstown today and painted this view of Skippers Canyon. It was cold however it was a fun afternoon plein air painting. The light on the mountain clouds was amazing. I’ve had a splendid afternoon painting at one of my favourite beaches, Taupo Bay in Northland, New Zealand. The cliffs and headlands at Taupo Bay are very dramatic and an excellent subject for plein air painting. They are however very tricky to paint.
