Day Dress (bodice and skirt) 1863-65. "During this period the wide skirt was fashionable. The fullness of the skirt had receded towards the back of the garment creating a flatter front. Women had crinoline petticoats made of steel hopes under their dresses to give the required shape. Lightweight fabrics (silk and muslin) were popular. This gown is silk with hand embroidery in black silk with black taffeta and a lace collar." Victoria and Albert museum.
