The design team found a number of clever and striking ways to incorporate parts of the original cottage into the new addition. Plywood walls and ceiling finished in Resene Colorwood Whitewash, other walls in Resene Half Merino, reclaimed timber stairs sealed in Resene Qristal ClearFloor 1K and trims sealed in Resene Qristal Clear. For an urban, bush-clad site in Warkworth north of Auckland, BK Design chose vertical timber cladding for this home but chose to emphasise the recesses in the front and back of the house with a change in stain colour. For the ‘frame’ of the recess, they used Wood-X in colour Kauri Gum, available from Resene, and for the inside of the frame, they used Wood-X in colour Foundry.
