Whitney Howard Thunderbolt Rifle - Our single-shot GOTD had some mechanical issues. While designed and patented during the American Civil War, the .44 caliber Thunderbolt had a recurring issue during 1867 military trials – the action would “pop” open during firing. This could be why less than 2,000 examples were made at Whitneyville, CT. NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, VA. http://goo.gl/tD4eap Steampunk, Gunsmithing, Cowboy Action Shooting, Weapons Guns, Pistols, Guns And Ammo

Phoenix Rifle – The Phoenix rifle was a product of the Whitney Arms company in Connecticut. It has been estimated that about 25,000 were produced with chamberings ranging from our example’s .40-70 up to .50 caliber from 1867 to 1881. The side-hinging breechblock of the Phoenix allows for easy identification. Vintage, Reloading, Assault Rifle, Hunting Guns
