Damien Jurado - Ohio. Blake introduced this song to me back in 2002ish. This fella is a crooner with some misery and folksy stuff. The song is pretty and while not really about anything related to my life, always tugged at my heart.
Daft Punk - One More Time. I love Daft Punk and when I met Z, he showed me Interstella 5555. It was right at the beginning of knowing him, so it's something that stood out to me. That and the fact that this song is awesome. We listened to it alot on sunday mornings, driving to work. Annnnd...Discovery is pretty much one of the best driving albums ever.
Birdy - Skinny Love (Bon Iver Cover). I love the original by Bon Iver, but I stumbled across this a couple months ago. Put it on a cd for my love who also fell in love with it. Our team effort didn't work out, this song definitely brings tears to my eyes. It's so pretty. I remember listening to it in December and hoping, "come on skinny love, just last the year."
Tori Amos - Silent All These Years. I got onto a Tori kick when I was around 16. I was angsty and discovering music. My good friend Dustin loved her a lot too, and once told me this song reminded him of me and him. Probably the line about "the antichrist in the kitchen yelling at me again"...reminded him of my mom, I think he said. Anyway, it's a pretty song, and while I don't think I'd like it much if I discovered it nowadays, it still sits fondly in my heart as a symbol of teenage sorrow…
