Cocomaya are one of the leaders in the artisan chocolate scene taking grip of London at the moment. The techniques used to create their little masterpieces hark back to a bygone era when quality and taste mattered far more than the ability to mass produce.
Dan Pearson of Marañón Chocolate, together with business partner Brian Horsley, began doing business in Peru in 2002. While sourcing bananas in the jungle canyon of Marañón, in 2007 they came upon cacao trees with 40% white beans. What they found was Pure Nacional, once the most prized cocoa beans in the world, before they were thought to have become extinct after being struck by disease in 1916 in Ecuador. http://www.ecolechocolat.com/chocolate_masters_hangouts.php
