A wyvern, sometimes spelled wivern, is a legendary winged creature with a dragon's head, reptilian body, wings and a barbed draconian tail. The sea-wyvern has a fish tail instead. The wyvern in its various forms is important to heraldry and occasionally appears in medieval and modern literature. It is often mistaken for a dragon, but has either two legs or no legs, unlike a dragon which typically has four. It may breathe fire or possess a venomous bite.
