The North Umpqua River has carved a sinuous gorge out of the lava flow, resulting in a waterfall of 113 feet in height - a 28 foot upper tier which plunges into a pool flanked by a deep alcove, followed by an 85 foot plunge into a large pool.
Visit Copper Falls State Park, about 4 hours north of Madison, this is one of the Wisconsin's most scenic parks with ancient lava flows, deep gorges and spectacular waterfalls. Be sure to check out the view of the 80 foot-deep gorge at the scenic overlook on the Takesin trail.
