Catherine of Aragon, daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, born on the 15th or 16th of December 1485. Catherine departed Spain to arrive in England in October of 1501, to marry Arthur Prince of Wales. The ceremony took place the 14th of November. Arthur died in April of 1502. Catherine married Henry VII.'s second son, now Heir to the throne, who would become Henry VIII. Married 1509 - 1533-Divorced
Once considered to be Catherine Parr, this painting is now asserted to Katherine of Aragon. The style of clothing and gable hood point more toward the early 16th century as opposed to the mid 16th century, which would also point to the sitter being Katherine of Aragon.
