I can't paint, but I can let the stars paint themselves into me. That is all the religion I will ever need.

Van Gogh comes to life in Barbara Stok’s compelling graphic novel Vincent. I read through its 141 pages in one sitting but keep dipping back into it for inspiration and motivation. The colourful, clean drawings combine with excerpts from the letters between Vincent and his brother Theo to show Van Gogh’s ideas about success, setbacks and how to create a meaningful life.

Van Gogh - excerpts from letter to his sister from Arles, 6/22/1888. "We spend our whole lives in unconscious exercise of the art of expressing our thoughts with the help of our words. The emotions are sometimes so strong that I work without knowing it. The strokes come like speech ... isn't it true that saying a thing well is as interesting and as difficult as painting it?"
