So for years now my mom has influenced me into natural products (paraben free, non-gmo, etc.) and basically just to eat clean/healthy. She drinks a green smoothie everyday, does yoga, and never leaves the house without sunscreen. Yeah, she's basically a vision of who I want to be. Of course, that's hard to do for a college kid but I try to stick to a healthy lifestyle as best I can. My best friend Jess is also really into natural products and one night we were talking about remedies and such and that sparked my idea for this post. I figured it's relevant because I feel most people want to be healthy (right?) and it's been trendy to drink cold pressed juice and eat kale salads these days. C H I A S E E D S My favorite way to add some ~health~ into my diet is by sprinkling some chia seeds into absolutely everything. I buy the huge box of them from BJ's and you're pretty much set for a year. Chia seeds are great sources of fiber, calcium, and antioxidants. Top off your avocado toast with them, mix them into yogurt, or a smoothie. C O C O N U T O I L Coconut oil is equivalent to gold in my eyes. It has SO many benefits. My favorite way to use it is to remove my makeup but I also lather it on as a moisturizer for my body. Use refined coconut oil for cooking (it smells less coconut-y) as an alternative to oil or butter. Rub some on your eyebrows and eyelashes to make them grow extra long. J A Z Z Y D R I N K S Okay so cold pressed juice isn't cheap. My favorite ones run about $6-$8 from Whole Foods, so it's definitely a treat when I take out a bank loan to get one. Cheaper alternatives include some regular ol' coconut water (my favorite is the one with pineapple) and probiotic drinks. Probiotics are SO great for you (digestive health) and the drinks are slightly carbonated (due to natural fermentation) and kind of taste like soda in that sense, so that's a great alternative too if you're addicted to diet Coke. My favorite probiotic drink is actually the Kevita Lemon Cayenne, but for photography purposes, I used my mother's favorite Kombucha drink. Highly suggest checking these out, they're all so yummy. S M O O T H I E B O W L S Smoothie bowls have become my obsession (as you probably noticed from Snapchat). I love them because they're a great alternative to dessert and also really fun to 'decorate'. Here's my recipe!: Smoothie part: -Frozen bananas -Berries (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, I buy them in a frozen bag mixed) -Almond milk -Touch of honey -Lots of chia seeds (around a tablespoon) OPTIONAL: -Almond Butter -Acai! (I'm cheap and won't buy acai to make a true acai bowl, hence smoothie bowl) ;) * Make sure your smoothie part is thicker than you would make a typical smoothie. The thicker, the better, and it won't melt as fast when you're adding toppings/eating. Add more fruit or ice to make it thicker! Toppings: -Chia seeds -Hemp -Granola (I use a cereal from Trader Joe's) -Coconut chips (You can use shredded, but the chips are just so much tastier) -Slivered Almonds OPTIONAL: -Almond butter -Cocoa nibs (as seen in Two Hand's acai bowl) -Added fresh fruit (I love Pineapple/Mango chunks) This isn't a surprising item for the fact that most people drink tea regularly. I wanted to include my favorite organic tea, this peppermint one! I also drink a lot of Yogi tea (I love the dandelion one and the berry medley one). I like the peppermint one because it helps an upset stomach and tastes fab. Are you sick of me talking about Acure products? Hope not. I'll leave it by saying I love using them because I never have to worry about putting harsh chemicals/parabens on my face. They smell great, feel amazing on the skin, and you can get them at Target.
