Lucy (Syracuse, 4th cent) went in pilgrimage to the tomb of St Agatha. In a dream, Agatha told Lucy she would be glorified like her. Lucy cancelled her engagement to a nobleman and gave her dowry to the poor. Her fiancé denounced her. Governor ordered she be placed in a brothel, but soldiers couldn’t even move her with oxen. Fire did no harm. They beheaded her where she stood. Her last words predicted the deaths of Maximian and Diocletian, and the coming of peace to the Church. Dec 13.
