Redshift:Absorption lines in the optical spectrum of a supercluster of distant galaxies (right), as compared to absorption lines in the optical spectrum of the Sun (left). Arrows indicate redshift. Wavelength increases up towards the red and beyond (frequency decreases).
An ice disc (10 metres in diameter) in northern China's Liaodong Bay reported 2011 in The Telegraph. Ice discs or ice pans are an unusual natural phenomenon, thin, circular slabs that rotate in slow moving water in cold climates.
Astronomers identify signature of Earth-eating stars Some Sun-like stars are 'Earth-eaters.' During their formation they ingest large amounts of the rocky material from which 'terrestrial' planets like Earth, Mars & Venus are made. Using a high-resolution spectrum for a given star, we can actually detect that signature & detail composition, element by element.
