PENNSYLVANIA FRAKTUR. "Geburts und Taufschein". Hand worked in bright yellow, red, blue and green. From "Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 1837". Two angels holding lyres, two distlefinks eating berries on a tree branch and a boy holding a letter and horn. Eagle with shield below the text. A few margin tears and minor stains. Paper size approx. 14 1/2" x 12". Red and blue frame decorated by Tom King. 19 1/2" x 16 3/4". Ex. Pettibone, Warren, PA., ex. Garth Oberlander.

FRAKTUR. Hand painted by Christian Mertel, a school master in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania ca. 1770 - 1800. The tall, castle like buildings with arched windows are typical of his work. Salmon pink and green watercolor buildings, crowned lions with human faces, an American eagle and an angel with inked text for the birth and baptism of George Stober, born November 21, 1800 in York County, Pennsylvania.
