Escape the chaos of Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi and head south to Hoi An Vietnam. Hoi An is English translates to “peaceful meeting place” and I’d have to agree with that. Hoi An is an oasis in Vietnam and our personal favorite city in Vietnam. I’d suggest at least two nights in Hoi an, or many more if your time allows. Xieng Khuan is a Buddha park in Vientiane, Laos by the Mekong River. Referred to as Wat Xieng Khuan means Spirit City. At the top, where the entire park is visible an enormous 40m high reclining Buddha, also a park attraction. The reclining posture may represent the Buddha resting but usually represents the mahāparinabbāna: the Buddha's final state of enlightenment before his death.
