Africa | Old Maasai beaded leather ear ornaments, ca 1950s | These three authentic old ear flaps were made at a time before Maasai beadwork and adornments became a tourist commodity. It was also a time when beads were scarce and expensive, hence the limited use of the precious beads to decorate the leather ear flaps. The aluminium triangles on two of the ear pieces are quite crude, cut by hand from worn out old cook pots, rather than sold ready made in the trading stores.
