Gulliver's Travels, whose full title is Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World. In Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of Several Ships, , is a prose satire by Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift, that is both a satire on human nature and the "travellers' tales" literary subgenre. It is Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature. He himself claimed that he wrote Gulliver's Travels "to vex the world rather…
"[..] let thee see what a stupid figure I shall make to all my own family, if my Clarissa has been capable, as Gulliver in his abominable Yahoo story phrases it, if it were only that I should be outwitted by such a novice at plotting, and that it would make me look silly to my kinswomen here, who know I value myself upon my contrivances, it would vex me to the heart; and I would instantly clap a featherbed into a coach and six, and fetch her away, sick or well, and marry her at my leisure."
A luscious childhood: Beautiful books for children
Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" is so well known, yet only some parts of it! While everyone seems to know Lilliput by name and the other 2 places by image (where he meets giants and the floating island - Laputa), apparently the Houyhnhnms are not known as well. This last chapter (?) is my favorite. The land of intelligent horses is a necessary ending and should not be omitted from Swift's story. Educate yourself and read THE WHOLE THING!!! Don't watch the movie or cartoon!
