Skeletal muscle is responsible for all voluntary movements, such as running . Also involved in  involuntary actions, such as breathing, shivering and maintaining posture.  Cardiac muscle is responsible for the beating action of the heart.  Smooth muscle creates the movement in many hollow internal organs, such as the gut, bladder, and blood vessels, and is under the control of the autonomic nervous system. This is part 1 of a 7 part hands-on unit study on anatomy of the human body. Create edible models of human cells and DNA, look at cheek cells under a microscope, and more! These lessons are geared toward 4th-5th grade level children and their siblings. They were created by another creative mom for our weekly homeschool co-op. We meet each week for 2 1/2 hours and have 33 children between the ages of 1-13. Use these fun lessons with your classroom, family, after school program, or co-op!
