Grand Tour intaglios nicely displayed on all sides of this obelisk... Those Intaglios, in the 19th century were bought and brought back home as souvenirs of the Grand Tour Trip, a trip few could afford..., they were then used as exquisite decorative specimen marble examples.
Pair of Green Marble Obelisks with decorative ormolu bronze detail at the top of each Obelisk ; both are supported by 4 gilded metal balls ; with typical square base of red marble contrast ; on black marble plinth (h 53 cm)
ATTRIBUTED to GIOVANI & GUISEPPE VALADIER - 2 Red Breccia Marble and Gilt Bronze Columns. One is decorated with an agate sphere, the other is topped by a statue of Minerva. They are based on some square white marble bases. Italy, late eighteenth century. Dim. One H: 35 cm The other H: 42.5 cm.
