Fashion history shows many examples of people shaping and changing the body to achieve desired looks. The waist can be made minimal with a corset. Hips or shoulders can be made wider with padding and high heels to compensate for lack of height. In the 1700s, women with narrow waist and wide hips were considered desirable.
