The 1873 Winchester was popular with cowboys and outlaws, because it chambered the same ammunition as the Colt revolvers many of them also carried, yet even lawmen in Arizona found good use for the rifle. In fact, Commodore Perry Owens made a name for himself with one of his Winchester repeaters (possibly a ’73) at an 1887 gunfight during the Pleasant Valley War.
