STEVE IRWIN's last words: "Don't worry. The stingrays don't usually swim backwards". The irony was an 8 ft wide stingray in chest-deep water attacked him and punctured his lung. The spine had pierced his heart and he bled out. Medical staff pronounced him dead at the scene.
I have looked up to Steve Irwin since I was five years old. I loved animals, and the notion that a full-grown man could love them almost as much as I did was inspiring. When he died, I felt like a little piece of me had died with him. I won't ever forget the lessons he taught.
