Icelandic or Viking breed

The Icelandic Chicken is a ‘landrace’ fowl, a species which has developed largely by natural processes from an old breed of chicken introduced to Iceland during the 9th Century by Viking (Norse ‘nörs‘) settlers. Possess a range of plumage colours, patterns, skin colouration & comb types. Icelandic chickens are uniformly hardy in winter, have white earlobes, and lay white to light brown coloured eggs. They are also said to be docile in temperament, and hens will readily go broody.
