President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant aka U. Grant (Point Pleasant, OH) - Commander of the Union Army at the end of the Civil War

Ulysses S. Grant -18th President of US - from 1869 to 1877 - served 2 terms,  Under Grant, the Union Army defeated the Confederate military which ended the Civil War. He was a 'career soldier'; graduated from West Point. Born in 1882. His mother was an "emotionally detached" woman (she never visited him once in the White House).  He was never a wealthy man, but was a caring & devoted husband and father. Died in1885 of throat cancer at the age of 63.
