Photographer and acrobatic stuntman Li Wei likes to hang reality upside-down by its ankles – staging improbable situations through the use of cables, scaffolding and elaborate mirror-gags. Like a true illusionist his method is part performance, part trickery – but he states the importance of eschewing digital manipulation to achieve realistic results. “When I am hanging in midair, I feel frightened and have a real feeling of existence,” says the artist.
