John Aaron grew up in rural Oklahoma. Apollo 12 launched on November 14, 1969. After struck by lightning, instruments began to malfunction, & telemetry data scrambled. He made the recommendation, "Flight, try SCE to 'Aux'. Pete Conrad responded, "What the hell is that?" Telemetry was immediately restored, allowing the mission to continue. John also saved Apollo 13. He developed a innovative power up sequence on re-entry. Called the "steely-eyed missile man",  Pretty good for an ole country…

Inside the module were Commander Neil A. Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin. The long rod-like protrusions under the landing pods are lunar surface sensing probes. Upon contact with the lunar surface, the probes sent a signal to the crew to shut down the descent engine
