The human face is a fascinating subject to paint but our familiarity with human faces renders the task of a realistic portrait quite difficult. On top, to capture the inner essence of the subject makes portraits fascinating. Three excellent portraits still showing at the Addison Art Gallery Best of America Exhibit until October 3 "Preacher" 12x16 by Steve McCoy from Iowa

Touches of different colors bring this painting into harmony. Luminosity is found through small brushstrokes of orange, blue, and ochre that glow throughout the surface. "Indian Princess" Acrylic 24x30 by J.M. Brodrick from Oregon. Only one week left to see this painting before the Best of America closes in Orleans, MA
