Inside vs. Outside, Emotions vs. Traits, & VB ~ Most kids are familiar with the basic emotions – bad, glad, mad, sad, etc. But words that describe traits, such as compassionate, driven, & selfish, are often totally new or only partially understood. Build VB by including LOTS of read alouds w/rich discussions about the characters. List those traits on anchor charts or in notebooks, illustrate different traits, & use that VB in the day-to-day of the classroom as much as possible.
