this is liesel, the protagonist of our great story. she is the daughter of two communist , therefore she and her brother had to be shipped away. on the train to meet their foster parents, her brother dies & at his funeral , she steals her first book. this starts a career in thievery for her. she begins to make close friends on Himmel Street, but just as all seemed to be going well, the bombs were dropped and all of her happiness disappeared .
