An Easy Trick to Remembering M1R and M1L Increases :: talvi knits.
Many people have a hard time remembering M1L (make one left) and M1R (make one right) increases. Instead of relying on memory, always pick up the strand from the back with the needle tip pointing towards the direction you want the increase to lean to.
