seanbautista: Dutch artist, Parra would have to be one of my favorite contemporary painters/illustrators. I love the way he balances the use of hand-written text and surreal characters in his pieces. Furthermore, I think that his brilliant use of color combinations and shape makes him comparable to a Henri Matisse of this generation.

Painter Erika Pochybova-Johnson is an untrained artist that relies on her intuition when painting her incredibly colorful figurative and abstract works. The artists festive color palette allows each image to explode with energy. Her series of tree paintings are especially intriguing due to her artistic choice to save that burst of multihued liveliness for the roots of her subjects.
