I finished Maine a few days ago. I would describe it as a beach read for people who are tired of books where the reader is assumed to be stupid and/or lazy. This book is about four women and there is no picture perfect wedding, romance, or any other Harlequin moment. It illustrates - beautifully, I might add - that life is a messy, complicated and bizarre journey from beginning to end. Read this and share it with your friends, you wont regret it.

What is it that causes this depression of the soul in me? A large part of it is forgetfulness. God is not distant. He is very, very busy.

This is the messiness of life - that we all carry multitudes, so must sit with the shifts. We are complicated creatures, and ultimately the balance comes from this understanding. Be water. Flowing, flexible and soft. Subtly powerful and open. Able to accept all changes, yet still led by the pull of steady tides. It is enough. ~ Victoria Erickson

More on Nora Ephron: A feminist who despised self-pity and self-importance, she set the world straight about having it all in a '96 Wellesley address: “Of course you can have it all. It will be a little messy, but embrace the mess. It will be complicated, but rejoice in the complications. It will not be anything like what you think it will be like, but surprises are good for you. And don’t be frightened: you can always change your mind. I know: I’ve had four careers and three husbands.”
