There are now five times more cormorants and fewer egrets and blue herons. Thousands of birds nest on the island and if you are downwind your nostrils are assaulted. "The Back Road To Hana, Maui" by Randy Jay Braun. This winding and random highway passes through the Kahiki Nui District on Maui. Most local folks call this the "back road to Hana". This section cuts through a jagged lava flow over deep crevices hidden by the green underbrush.
