The amazing Pileated Woodpecker is a huge North American woodpecker, roughly crow-sized, inhabiting deciduous forests in eastern North America, the Great Lakes, the boreal forests of Canada, and parts of the Pacific coast. I've seen them across Washington, most recently on Maury Island in the forest on the bluff above Point Robinson Lighthouse.
