Just gather the prettiest leaves you can find, sandwich them in sheets of wax paper, stack up your heaviest books, and tuck the leaves into the pages of the bottom book. I usually leave them in the book stack for a week or so, but you can leave them as long as you want. It might be a nice mid-winter treat to open a book and find a leafy surprise. The colors fade a bit, but the pressed leaves retain a bit of their former beauty.

Leaf People:  Make this craft after an outdoor scavenger hunt or a class "hike." I will do this with my first graders during our camp week at the end of the year. After they collect their nature items during the hike, we will return to the classroom where the kids will creature their "leaf person/animal/creature" and then they can write about their "leaf friend".

Autumn will SOON be here, and you and the kids can go on collecting trips as the leaves start changing.. I would be sure the leaves are throughly dry before storing-Maybe between the pages of an old book.
