First up: the Italian dog. One of our favorite side dishes with any Italian classic, like gooey homemade eggplant parmesean or the labor of love that is lasagna, is bitter, toothsome broccoli rabe sauteed very simply with garlic, olive oil and just a pinch of red chili flakes. It happens to make an excellent topping for an Italian sausage in a crisp, toasted bun with melted provolone.
Sausage Ragu - A Hearty Italian Stew During the winter months nothing hits the spot like a recipe for sausage ragu and this Italian stew fits the bill wonderfullyChoose hot or mild Italian sausage according to your taste and serve it on polenta or pasta according to your preference. I like broccoli rabe sauteed in olive oil with garlic and anchovies on the side, but plain old broccoli with a dollop of mayonnaise would also be good.
