Kustanair / Kostanay horse was created in Kazakhastan by crossing local horses with imported ones, like Dons, Strelets and TB crosses in 19th century. The earliest studs developing them were Turgai, Kustanai and Orenburg. First there were 2 types, saddle type with high TB percentage and steppe type with Don and Kazakh blood. Modern Kustanai combines the best features of both. They're used as riding horses and known for their speed.
