CAPTION 3: For Sappho, I chose this image because these words capture both her soul and style, as a true composer. I admire and relate to Sappho: we're both female poets who write lyrically, plus our words aim to dig deep into the pits of our art. Sappho's poems dealt with Eros, so it could be experience by both men and women. The rawness and melody of her words offset the paradoxical content she explores. Sappho never ceases to impress me.

Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) was a Russian poet and novelist whose epic Doctor Zhivago helped him win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1958.

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for." - - John Keating (Robin Williams) | Jessica made this with Spoken.ly
