"Disappearing Nine Patch" block - from Valentine Quiltworks blog; After cutting a standard nine patch block vertically and horizontally down the center, turn two of the blocks. Now the nine patch has disappeared and the center accent square is now four small squares in the block.
. For this one I regrouped 4 little blocks to make one big block again, so I had 3 large blocks to make the runner. I tried to have 2 little squares in the center of each block facing the same way for each of the 3 larger blocks. Does that make sense? But you could really arrange the blocks anyway you wished. That's the joy of a Disappearing 9 Patch block, it doesn't really matter!
Evolution by Keiko Ike, 2013 ... "I have been living with grief in my heart since the 2011 East Japan Great Earthquake and have spent a lot of time thinking about reconstructing Japan. One day, an illustration that I unintentionally drew gave me an idea; and I wanted to express it on a quilt. I wholeheartedly pray for progress and evolution in the future and tried to put this idea on this quilt like it is to be my future life."
