A fine view of the sheer scale and complexity of the big gun turret for a Battleship. In this case, this appears to be a British 15" gun mounting, of the type mounted on R class batlleships, "Queen Elizabeth" class and Renown and Repulse.
'R' class battleship HMS Resolution alongside 'Queen Elizabeth' class HMS Valiant early in WW2. Though both mounted 8 x 15 in guns the 'R's (a later design) had reduced engine power to economise after the expense of the 'QEs'. They had less scope for modernisation, being too slow, and overall were much less successful as a result.
HMS Howe, 14 in King George V class battleship, built to Washington Treaty limits. Sisters HMS Prince of Wales (participant in the Bismarck saga and sunk by the Japanese in 1941) and HMS Duke of York (victor over the German battleship Scharnhorst in 1943) were the best known of the 5 ship class other than Home Fleet flagship 'KGV' herself.
