Bridgnorth Castle, Shropshire - The castle was founded in 1101 by Robert Montgomery de Belleme, who is reputed to have been a very nasty character. He tortured men and women and even is reported to have gouged his godson’s eyes out with his bare fingernails. He was a rich and powerful Norman baron who succeeded his father to become the Earl of Shrewsbury.
First Confederate White House. The First White House of the Confederacy in Montgomery, AL was the executive residence for Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy . . .Used from Feb.-May 1861. . .after which time, the Confederate Capital moved to Richmond, VA. The Italianate style house built in 1835, holds many of the Davis' personal items. It still maintains the feeling of a gracious , welcoming southern home.
