Le Massif de Charlevoix Quebec’s Le Massif de Charlevoix’s claim to fame is that it offers the highest vertical east of the Canadian Rockies and is one of the best-kept ski secrets. The mountain has a dedicated beginners’ area, with a magic carpet, easy runs and ski schools starting at age five, and the daycare welcomes kids two and up. Slope-side accommodation will be available soon, but in the meantime, there are plenty of small hotels, motels, inns and B&B’s to choose from.
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area hosted 20 teams of avalanche search and rescue dogs Jan-Feb 2016, along with their patrol handlers from ski areas across Colorado for the Colorado Rapid Avalanche Deployment (C-RAD) training seminar. Here is my favorite pic of Arapahoe Basin patroller Dom Vellone with his dog, Max, a one-year-old black Labrador Retriever. Max is training for his C-RAD certification - these dogs and handlers are awesome and can save lives! Photo credit: Dave Camara, A-Basin
