UNIFORM- A typical world war 1 american uniform. Could have potential to be different depending on rank in army. The US Army uniforms and kit were also significantly less cumbersome than those of the German military.
Kilt-Scottish soldiers wore kilts in battles. Kilt aprons were used to replace the sporran, which held items, and protected the kilt when in the line. These soldiers would carry gas in small bags over the kilt, like a sporran.
This is a woman's uniform from WWI. While women weren't soldiers, they participated in a variety of activities that required shorter skirts and had military inspired pieces. This particular outfit is American, made of wool, and housed at the Met.
