Gianna Parisi BFA Thesis - "Forget Me Not" is an assisted living home for Alzheimer's Patients, located in the heart of West Village at 150 Charles Street. The Alzheimer's Association has been spreading its awareness worldwide for years, and it is time for them to have a physical location to send their existing patients to. The overall design is intended to feel very residential and serene for these patients.
Shayna Baum, BFA Thesis 2016: The Bond is located at 10 Bond Street in the NoHo neighborhood in Manhattan. The Bond is a center for widowed moms with young children to stay for 5 to 10 days. The center provides for their physical, social, emotional, and psychological needs under one roof and enables them to live with dignity and hope while coping with loss of life. The concept of the space is moving from dark to light, which mirrors the woman’s journey through the mourning process.
Brianna Deegan, BFA Thesis 2016: The Center for Youth is designed with two primary users in mind. The main users are teenagers and young, adults ages 12-24. With overcrowded foster homes and unsafe living situations, many teenagers lack the support and security of a standard home. This design proposal creates a safe place for teenagers and young adults to live while also learning from and being a part of their communities.
Vivian Rosenberg, BFA Thesis 2016: Maestro, located at 12-16 East 62nd Street, is a place where the musical masters of the world can share their talents with the artists of the future. Maestro provides an immersive creative environment for musicians. Each master is given a private apartment for their use during their residency. There are also rooms to teach and practice, and a space to perform.
Yixin Feng, BFA Thesis - "Beijing Public Library of the Culture of Traditional China" is a multi-functional facility that integrates reading, learning, and outreach programs to promote the traditional culture of China.
Sol Seong, BFA Thesis 2016: Creator’s Plane is a multi-functional, co-working space with a gallery, auditorium, theater, café, and garden. In the 21st century, we are transitioning away from static working styles to more fluid arrangements. A good working environment enhances people’s creativity. At Creator’s Plane, all social space is connected by one folding plane that allows people have unexpected encounters.
Cydia Ng, BFA Thesis - "The Art Hotel" allows visitors easy access to a variety of artwork all in one place. The hotel's gallery features new art each month and each of the 32 guest rooms feature a different type of art from street art to photography.
Ya-Ju Cheng, MFA-2 Thesis 2016: A New Urban Housing Model is an inventive residential project in Dumbo. It consists of micro apartments of varying sizes with shared communal spaces. The concept for this project is to combine modular apartment units with bicycle use. The project is designed as a cyclist-friendly living space surrounded by the East River, bridges to Manhattan, and parks.
Elisa Vincenti, BFA Thesis 2016: Reach Out is designed to give children of foster care a place to become a part of a family and create new positive beginnings. This site is a combination of residential living, life coaching, and community outreach. Reach Out has taken the approach to raise a select number of teenage foster care placements, while beginning to guide them forward on a stable path to success.
Jingyi Wang, MFA-2 Thesis 2016: New Residences in China for Uyghur Community tackles the relocation of a community into a building and reimagines the interior to provide a more familiar life experience for its Uyghur residents. The concept is to develop an entire village within the envelope of a single building. The “village” includes residences, retail spaces, social public gathering areas, and religious spaces, all reminiscent of the old town of Kashgar.
Dana Koebbe, BFA Thesis 2016: The Holistic Culinary Center is a state-of-the-art facility providing innovative and interdisciplinary health-supportive culinary education. Based on vegan dietary guidelines, the curriculum empowers chefs, individuals, and communities to be leaders in the conversation about food and well-being through the preparation of healthy and delicious meals.
